If you are fed up with chemical-laden hair dyes, which not only negatively affect your hair follicles and scalp, but also make your wallet lighter, we may have found the perfect solution for you.
Listening to how our grandmothers dyed their hair using only natural ingredients and still enjoyed great tones and natural shine, we decided to share with you 4 recipes about natural hair coloring.
1# Green walnut husks – for brown hair
The first thing you do is remove the green husks from 15-25 walnuts. Then, chop and mince the husks. Add some warm water and mix until it well-blended. What you get is your natural hair dye. Using a tint brush, apply the mixture on your hair. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes then rinse well. Wash your hair with shampoo as usual. In the end, rinse your hair with diluted apple cider vinegar. This will only make your new color more intense.
2# Red onion skin and oak bark infusion – for light brown hair
All you need for this recipe is half a cup red onion skins and an equal ratio of oak bark. Mix these two ingredients and cover with 1l boiling water. Let it simmer for 1 hour. Leave the infusion cool for an hour and a half. Apply this on your hair and leave it to act for 45 minutes. As with the previous recipe, rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar. Always dilute ACV with water, preferably in a 1:10 ratio; for example 200ml ACV to 2l water.
3# Chamomile infusion – the perfect dye for golden blond hair
Add 100g chamomile in 1/2l water. Bring to a boil, then strain. Apply this infusion on your hair. Let it act for half an hour before you rinse. Don’t forget to rinse with diluted ACV in the end.
4# Beetroot – for red hair
If you are a brunette, the beetroot recipe is just what you need. Get a medium beetroot, chop nicely and boil. Leave the mixture to cool afterwards. The next thing you do is mash some of the pieces in the water. This is your natural red dye. Apply on your hair and leave on for about 20 minutes. Wash your hair as usual then rinse with diluted ACV to make the color more intense. If your red hair is of a lighter hue, this treatment will give immediate results, starting on the first try. But, if you are dark red, you may need a few treatments to get the desired results.
